spectrum+ is an exceptionally robust combination play unit system, with extensive play value potential. With a significant choice of play activities, materials and colour options, it combines versatility and high visual impact. 

Carefully engineered component designs and vandal resistant fasteners make it ideal for both public and school playgrounds.

The extensive choice of play activities gives spectrum+ a flexibility which is really amazing, and designs can be adapted to suit vastly different applications. Special play units for either junior or senior age groups are possible, and they can be laid out in linear, circuit or irregular formations as required. Different types of play can be catered for, be it imaginative play, active play, or perhaps a ninja course. 

Users with special needs can also be taken care of and wheelchair ramps and other accessible elements can be provided for their benefit. Play units that reflect a particular theme, such as a boat, train, farm… and so on can also be developed if required.

Standard or Custom Layouts

In addition to single activity freestanding units, there is a vast range of standard combination play unit layouts available to suit a myriad of different situations. There are options to suit different ages, there are compact units, large units, units to suit schools, and others for community parks. 

Some units have a linear layout while others form a circuit.  Some units focus on climbing and others concentrate on interactive play. There are themed play units to fire the imagination… and on goes the list! These standard units can be selected as they are and will be perfect for many applications, and for other projects, they will supply a base to work from to create a unique, customised design.

Material Selection

One of the distinctive features of the spectrum+ system is the ability to change various key materials while still retaining the same layout design. Whether it be a particular aesthetic that is desired or extra corrosion protection that is required, spectrum+ can provide the perfect solution to every individual design brief.

Material selection is an integral part of the design process, and whether you are opting for a standard layout or a fully customised layout to suit your project, our Playground Consultants will ensure that the right options are selected to meet your requirements.

Standard material options are detailed below, however please note that not all options are available on all play units. For unit specific option availability, please refer to the product page for standard units, or your Playground Consultant for customised units.

Timber Aesthetic

The use of timber in a play unit is a popular way to give a more natural aesthetic to a play space.  The flexibility of the spectrum+ system means that there are various ways to do achieve this, depending on the level desired.

For a more subtle timber highlight only, consider opting for the guardrails to be timber, or for more emphasis, make any climbing walls and shop counters timber as well. For the full maximum timber feel, select the timber option for the platforms, as well as the options above.

Marine Grade

The default material options provide a good level of corrosion protection and will suit a majority of situations.  In situations where there is a higher chance of corrosion, but there is not the need to go to the expense of maximum protection, we recommend that just the full primer coat of all galvanised steel components option be selected on top of the default options.

In other situations where the chance of corrosion is high, and the best possible corrosion protection is required, we recommend that the aluminium main upright and platform options be selected, along with stainless steel fasteners and full primer coat of all galvanised steel components.

Component Selection

The modular nature of spectrum+ allows you to select and change play components and layouts easily.  Components can be selected to cater to different user groups, concentrate on specific types of play, or to meet particular user wishes.  Choose a roof to provide a specific architectural look.  Opt for two slides to suit different age groups.  Include the long-time favourites like a monkey bar and a fireman’s pole.  The choices are endless!

Standard play unit layouts can be modified with your component selections, or you can create a ‘wish list’ of components that our designers can use to develop a customised solution.

Colour Selection

The selection of colours for play equipment is an important part of the design process, and should take into account the proposed user group and the surrounding environment.  spectrum+ offers great potential to impart the required character to a playground through the use of colour on the varied material surfaces.

With an extensive range of colours available, the combinations and themes possible are enormous.  Looking for a natural theme?  Consider using a subtle, earth toned colour scheme.  Or, if you’re looking for something vibrant, explore bright colours such as red, orange or green.  Dynamic colours will have a bold and striking effect, whereas heritage colours will impart a distinguished and stately image.
