Play space packed with play for all
Many parties were involved in the collaborative efforts to rejuvenate Galaxyland Playground, including adventure+, Hume City Council, Warrandale Industries, and landscape architect ACLA Consultants.
The plans for redevelopment have created a new dynamic duo in the form of ACLA and adventure+, both of which aim to create richly educational and fun spaces dedicated to aiding the development of children. Combining adventure+’s expert play knowledge and impressive range of customisable products with the landscape architect’s creativity resulted in the best possible outcome for both the community and the client, Hume City Council.
Aiming to have something to please everyone, the new play space is suited to children of all ages and abilities.
With separate senior and junior play areas, plus a range of accessible activities and landscape design elements, there truly is more than enough to make Galaxyland Playground feel welcoming and diverse.
A main challenge that the landscape architect team has successfully overcome is how to incorporate the existing pathways and established trees. With accessibility always a keen focus, there is a network of interconnecting paths that lead to micro play spaces throughout the park. The play space contains two main areas, a junior and senior play area; these are separated by the main BBQ area, providing an easy supervision solution for carers that deserve to feel relaxed too. Other areas included in the park are a basketball half-court, dry creek bed, additional BBQ areas, grass breakout areas, a flying fox area, and a sensory maze.
In the senior play area, adventure+ has custom designed and manufactured a play tower, which stands at a tantalising 6 metres tall. Then there is a challenging rope structure to push those older children that still feel young at heart. The junior area is the antonym of uninspiring too, including a customised play unit suited to younger age groups through the provision of easy access. There is also other equipment to be enjoyed by many, such as a flying fox, multidirectional swing, in-ground trampolines, and swings.
This project includes a spectrum+ special design play unit that utilises powdercoated steel as the main structural element.
