Overview
Truganina P-9 College is a recently opened school in Melbourne’s West. With increasing enrolment numbers, it was important to the school to provide sufficient facilities to keep the students active and occupied. adventure+ has partnered with the school over the past several years to develop numerous play areas.

Large timber school playground situated on a mound.
The first area that adventure+ was engaged for was a multi age playground. The school selected timber as the primary structural element as they wanted to add a soft natural touch to their new modern school. Installed on rubber undersurfacing, also organised by adventure+ the outcome looks fantastic.
The playground was specially designed to fit within the designated space. Customising the design allowed the school to make the most of the available space while complying with the Australian Standard. This is something that is difficult to achieve with an off-the-shelf playground design.
With this playground we attempted to include a large variety of play items as children have different interests and abilities. Also, we applied a good design principle of having large refuge area, this helps children flow throughout the playground freely minimising the likelihood of collisions and injury.
The project includes a large timber playground with skillion roofs that provide shade and impressive aesthetics. Having worked with the college previously, timber style equipment was utilised in this design to be consistent with the earlier project. The design includes a range of play activities that challenge and promote imaginative play, including stepping stones, a climbing cube, slides and much more!
The playground site is mounded, which provided the perfect opportunity for a mound slide, as well as a place where children can sit, chat and play.
